A facebook PM rant that was thankfully delted and reposted harmlessy here
I'm feeling ambivalent, in the classical sense of the word, so forgive me but what I'm about to write is probably going to be a bit of a rant/ramble/random. And, it involves politics, so if you want to avoid politics than skip down a few paragraphs and baseball will be there. ;)
I came home from work late tonight and logged onto facebook and saw about 75 posts all discussing the debate. And what I realized very quickly is that I couldn't care less. Which is significant because 4 years ago it would have been the most important story of the week, if not month, for me. I would have been extremely disappointed in anyone who wasn't taking an intense interest in the election. This year, it's going to be a hold-my-nose election for me, and I've never been more disillusioned with our government than in any point of my life.
Part of it is I'm in the process of finishing up part 3 of Edmund Morris's excellent biography of Theodore Roosevelt. (A must read, btw, but if you have limited time than you MUST at some point read/listen to the first book: "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt").
100 years ago this country had a choice between two giants: Wilson and Roosevelt. (Well, and Taft too but only GOP party loyalists voted for him even then). Today our choices are, well, to be polite, diminished. Though, if you pressed me, I would say Obama has a lot of similarities to Wilson. And Romney has a lot of similarities to Taft.
